Spring is finally on the way, and after months of chilly weather and cabin fever, our pups are just as eager to get outside as we are! Fortunately, Central PA is full of dog-friendly spots where you don’t have to leave your furry friend behind. From patios with water bowls and treats to breweries and cafés that welcome wagging tails, there are plenty of local gems perfect for an outing with your pup.
At Playful Pups Retreat, many of our team members love exploring the Hershey and Harrisburg areas with our dogs, and we’ve rounded up a list of 10 of our absolute favorite dog-friendly restaurants, cafés, and breweries. These places don’t just tolerate dogs—they welcome them with open arms (and sometimes even their own menu!). I’ve personally visited each of these spots and can vouch for the great experiences they offer both two- and four-legged guests.
So, grab your leash, pack a few doggie essentials (poop bags, water bowl, treats, maybe a blanket), and get ready to enjoy some fresh air, delicious food, and quality time with your pup at one of these dog-friendly destinations!
2850 Horseshoe Pike, Palmyra, PA. 17010
Rising Sun Bar & Kitchen is the kind of place you can visit for brunch and end up staying well into the night—thanks to their creative menu, craft cocktails, lively trivia nights, and regular live music. It’s got the perfect blend of energy and comfort, making it a favorite local hangout.
Even better? Your leashed, well-behaved pup is welcome to join the fun on their spacious outdoor patio. Whether you prefer relaxing in the shade with built-in fans or soaking up the sun, there’s a spot for everyone. They even cater to their canine guests with fresh water bowls that are happily refilled throughout your visit.
Menu standouts include pulled chicken nachos, poutine brisket fries, fish tacos, and their mouthwatering Unagi roll—but if you ask me, the Bang Bang cauliflower and whiskey mac & cheese are absolute must-tries. Come hungry, and don’t forget to bring your pup along for the experience!
3950 Tecport Dr. Harrisburg, PA. 17111
The Table is a cozy, Scandinavian-inspired breakfast and lunch spot that’s as warm and welcoming as the dishes they serve. Formerly known as Tomato Pie Café, this gluten- and vegan-friendly eatery offers a fresh take on comfort food with a creative twist.
Leashed pups are invited to join you at one of their charming umbrella-shaded sidewalk tables, making it a perfect stop for a laid-back brunch with your furry companion by your side.
From their signature teas and coffees to crave-worthy bites like avocado toast, chicken and waffles, veggie wraps, and the beloved tomato pie, there’s something for everyone. My personal favorites? The honey lavender fog and the Sveler—fluffy Norwegian pancakes that are every bit as delicious as they sound.).
200 State St. Harrisburg, PA. 17101
Cork & Fork is a charming brick-walled Italian restaurant and wine bar that serves up handcrafted pizzas, house-made pastas, and thoughtfully curated small plates—all made with locally sourced ingredients.
Their outdoor seating area is not only cozy but dog-friendly, too! The attentive staff will bring water bowls for your pup, and one guest even shared that they’ll grill a piece of chicken for your dog for just $3—how sweet is that?
Menu highlights include the pistachio pesto pizza, crab ravioli, and swordfish spiedini, all perfectly paired with their extensive selection of white wines. If you’re a fan of mushrooms, the Funghi pizza is a must-try. It’s the perfect spot for an elevated yet relaxed dinner—with your pup right by your side.
18 S 3rd St. Harrisburg, PA. 17101
El Sol Mexican Restaurant is a vibrant spot that blends rich, authentic flavors with modern twists—and it’s a must-visit for anyone who loves bold food and top-tier tequila. Their extensive tequila menu is the perfect companion to a flavorful meal crafted from traditional recipes and fresh ingredients.
Located in a stylish part of town, El Sol offers two cozy bistro tables on the sidewalk where you and your leashed pup can enjoy the atmosphere together. It’s a small setup, but the warm hospitality makes it feel just right for an al fresco lunch or dinner with your furry friend.
Menu favorites include crab enchilada verdes, tender carnitas, and chiles mixtos. The chips and salsa alone are worth the visit, but if you’re staying for a full meal, I highly recommend the Enchiladas de Verano—they’re a delicious seasonal highlight you don’t want to miss.
400 N 2nd St. Harrisburg, PA. 17101
Burger Yum is a laid-back, dog-friendly burger joint that takes pride in serving antibiotic- and hormone-free burgers, chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs—paired with crispy fries, creamy milkshakes, craft beer, and wine. It’s the perfect place to kick back with casual eats and good vibes.
Your pup will feel right at home here too! The friendly staff offers complimentary water for your four-legged companion, and they’ll even grill up a plain chicken breast just for your dog.
With a variety of handhelds to choose from, you can’t go wrong—but my personal favorite is the VeggieYum Burger, made with a grilled portobello mushroom, goat cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and their signature YumSauce, all served on a wheat roll. It’s a flavorful, satisfying option—whether you’re a vegetarian or just in the mood for something different.
114 W Chocolate Ave. Hershey, PA. 17033
The Chocolate Avenue Grill is a bright, inviting bistro with a little something for everyone—wraps, pastas, seafood, classic American fare, and yes… chocolate martinis! It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner with your pup by your side.
Their spacious, dog-friendly patio features 15 tables and is fully fenced for safety and comfort. There are umbrellas for shade on sunny days and heaters to keep things cozy when it’s cooler out. The staff happily brings out water bowls for your pup, and there’s even a small patch of grass nearby for quick walks.
From Tim’s famous Philly hoagies to burgers, vegetarian dishes, and seafood options, the menu has plenty to choose from. If you’re looking for a flavorful favorite, I highly recommend the veggie Thai wrap—fresh, tasty, and always a win!
200 Hersheypark Dr. Hershey, PA. 17033
Tröegs Independent Brewing is a must-visit destination for craft beer lovers and foodies alike, offering both self-guided and guided tours, a tasting room, and a snack bar serving elevated, made-from-scratch American fare. But the best part? Your dog can come along for the fun—at least in their dog-friendly Beer Garden patio!
This cool brick patio features 8 picnic tables where you and your pup can relax together. While the main outdoor seating area isn’t pet-friendly, the Beer Garden patio is the perfect spot for dog owners. Scan a QR code at your table to order drinks, and if you’re with a friend, one of you can grab food from inside while the other hangs out with your furry companion. On busier days, they often have food trucks outside too!
Tröegs goes the extra mile for pups—providing water bowls, treats, and even a designated water dispenser and green space complete with a trash can and poop bag station.
The rotating seasonal menu always brings something fresh, but customer favorites include the house charcuterie board, pulled pork sandwiches, and the always-craveable Hop Fries. To drink, you can’t go wrong with the Passionfruit Ale, Grand Cacao Stout, or the refreshing Sunshine Pilsner. There’s always something new to try—for both you and your pup!
110 Rear W Chocolate Ave. Hershey, PA. 17033
Meaning “at the right place,” Au Bon Lieu lives up to its name with a charming French café atmosphere and a menu featuring over 50 varieties of sweet and savory crêpes, plus fresh salads, coffees, and teas. It’s a cozy spot for a casual meal—and yes, your pup is welcome too!
There are nine shaded outdoor tables where your leashed dog can join you, but keep in mind that there’s no table service. You’ll need to bring a friend along to stay with your pup while you head inside to order.
With so many crêpe options to choose from, it’s hard to go wrong—but I recommend the Ratatouille (#40) for a warm, savory bite, or the Nutella with fresh strawberries (#303) if you’re in the mood for something sweet. It’s the perfect spot for a leisurely bite with your four-legged companion by your side.
1 E Main St. Hummelstown, PA. 17036
Jo Jo’s Pizzeria & Restaurant is a laid-back Italian spot offering everything from hearty subs and classic pizzas to cocktails, beer, and wine—perfect for a casual night out or a takeout treat.
Their dog-friendly outdoor seating includes room for sixteen on the patio and eight more out front, and they happily provide water bowls for your pup so they can stay cool and comfy while you dine.
The menu is packed with Italian favorites, but the standout is their signature Jo Jo’s Pizza—a fully loaded pie topped with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, ham, black olives, and anchovies. If you’re craving something a little lighter, the Margherita Pizza is a fresh, flavorful favorite of mine. It’s a great neighborhood spot to enjoy good food with your four-legged friend.
2625 Brindle Dr. Harrisburg, PA. 17110
Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar is a trendy, health-conscious eatery known for its fresh, locally sourced ingredients and flavorful global dishes. With plenty of vegan and under-500-calorie options, it’s the perfect spot for a feel-good meal that doesn’t sacrifice taste.
Your pup is more than welcome to join you at one of their pet-friendly outdoor tables—and they’ll be treated like a true guest! Think treats, a bowl of ice water, and plenty of pets from the friendly staff.
The menu rotates with the seasons, so there’s always something new to try. Personally, I’m a big fan of their eggplant parmesan and the local artisan cheese board—both are delicious, beautifully presented, and perfect for sharing (though maybe not with your pup!).
Central PA is full of amazing spots where you and your pup can enjoy a delicious meal, soak up some sunshine, and make lasting memories together. Whether you’re in the mood for pizza on a patio, a craft beer in a beer garden, or a cozy café brunch, there’s something here for every foodie—and their furry best friend. So, leash up your pup, grab some treats and a water bowl, and start exploring these dog-friendly gems. Trust us—tails will be wagging!
